DkIT student film Echo receives Special Mention in the Best Short Film category at the prestigious First Frame event during the Dublin International Film Festival

28 March 2025

DkIT students from 1st-4th year of the Film & TV programme recently attended the First Frame event at the Dublin International Film Festival in the Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield.

The First Frame event at DIFF was launched in 2020 and brings together students from over 50 film courses, universities and further education institutions from around Ireland to come together and view a curated selection of student films.   Additionally, students are invited to participate in workshops and panels with film talent.  It's an excellent opportunity for course leaders and students to network with their peers as part of an international film event.

First Frame encourages film students from around Ireland to engage with DIFF, and to expand their own networks outside of their academic courses.

This year, 3 student films from DKIT were selected for screening alongside work from film students all over the country.  These included short fiction films; Echo, written and directed by Lauren Corlett and Brother, written and directed by Tom Johnson.  Short documentary, Ailurophilia, directed by Sarah Grey was also featured at the event.

The judges on the day included Evan Horan from Keeper Pictures, Claire Dunlop from Eclipse Pictures Ltd, Irish musician and actor Steve Wall, and film studies expert Monika Abrahamson.

DkIT student film Echo, written and directed by Lauren Corlett was given a Special Mention in the Best Short Film category, an amazing achievement when up against the high calibre of fiction films made from students all across Ireland.
